  1. i don't know whether this blog is still alive, but I have just played a Chinese piano: the Hailun 218 a shop north of Toronto. It's 7ft 2 inches in length and sits in the same room as a 9 foot Steingraeber, one of the best pianos in the world, and a 1997 Steinway B (which is about 6ft 10 inches.) The keys on the Hailun are pretty "plastic" looking. But other than that, not a bad looking grand. Action was very high calibre as far as ppp and fff. Far, far superior to my 5ft 10 at home. As good as the Steinway B in terms of soft and loud, not as good for fast, repetitive note playing, eg, trills. Tone: pretty incredible, to be honest. Above A4 the Steinway was nicer, but the Hailun was equal in the bass. Not up to the Steingraeber, obviously, but that's a 200k instrument. Still, it is the first Chinese-made (German parts) piano I've ever come across that was a real contender.
